The Ministry of utmost corruption

Arundhati Roy is the most articulate and eloquent voice I know on Gaza. She speaks for me and for humanity.   Listen and watch her on this link   Roy On Gaza I have been meaning to read her book and for years and am now in the middle of "The ministry of Utmost Happiness" I find her hard to read, so my reading is slow. Each page packs the punch of another writer's chapter. The stories are dense and harrowing. It isn't about Gaza. It is about India and another part of the world that is special for me, Kashmir.  I have never been there any more than Palestine, but I have seen endless pictures of its stunning lakes and mountains.  Roy is telling us what my wife keeps telling me, that hell is on earth all over the place, not just in the middle east. People are vile creatures, many of them and perhaps all of us some of the time. It is disturbing to hear about the corruption and treachery and violence and torture they we see in Gaza, happening in much the same w...

Betrayal of Trust

Blinding British Corruption                                                                                     or  Betrayal of Trust For many of us the world has been turned upside down, inside out, on its head. There hardly seems a set of words adequate to describe the level of damage to the foundations of our trust in the sanity of our culture that the crisis in Palestine has brought about. Our conceptual grasp of the society we are embedded in looks like the ruins of Gaza City. To get some perspective it may be useful to view things cross culturally, connecting the BBC, Blinding British Corruption, to what people from other cultures ...

Daybreak in Gaza

Post number 4          Daybreak in Gaza Zionists ask my if I have any “skin in this game”, which is to say, if I am not Jew or Arab it really should not matter to me. They say I must be antisemitic, because I care about Palestine, not the Congo or the Sudan, where Arabs are committing atrocities. Yes, there are lots of atrocities going on all the time in numerous parts of the world. I care less about these. I care about these people and this conflict because it focuses on the land I heard about every single day of my early life from 5 to 18. Why else? Because my maternal line is Bedouin, way way back. No, that is not enough, though it matters to me. Because this is the Holy land. Because I know the Bible, with its historical and mythological stories. Because I know that David killed Goliath, who was a Philistine, from Philistia or as it is now known, Palestine. I know that The Bible and the Jews did not come from the Ho...

I am still coming to grips with inter-generational and multi-generational trauma both in my own life and in the middle east, as we call it in England. As Gabor Matte tells us in this video, Jews believe that in every generation "they" will rise up to attack us. Everyone is an enemy who will at some time attack.  October 7th was just such an event. But the Israelis, having been brought up from infancy to see the people outside their huge walls as an enemy set on destroying them, this was the nightmare expectation coming true. The response was a determination to wipe out the people of Gaza. There is no innocent person in Gaza, was the cry. They are Amalek, we will kill them all. Collective, multigenerational trauma made a paranoid people into maniac psychotic people. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azxtxKyHntA&ab_channel=DrGaborMat%C3%A9 This is why we see all the videos of the celebration of war crimes on TikTok. They do not care because anything and everything is justif...

Looking for a Starting Point Christian, Muslim, Arab, Jew, There is no God that is just for you. Put down the guns. Do something right, before we are lost in endless night. Palestine? There is archeological evidence of a city in what is Gaza today, that goes back 4,000 years. But the Palestine we know today comes much later. The name Palestine, itself probably comes from what we call the Philistines, a sea people, who traded across the Mediterranean and settled in the Gaza area much later. They were one of the peoples the Jews fought with when they pushed into what they called Canaan. The Hebrew Bible tells a tale of the shepherd boy David, later King David, who kills the Philistine giant and champion with a slingshot to the head, without ever having to get close. There is a similar story of a boy defeating a giant in the Illiad, which predates Goliath by 800 years. Like all things Biblical, it is unwise to take things literally. What we are meant to learn is ...

For those who have suffered evil What huge imago made A psychopathic god: I and the public know What all schoolchildren learn, Those to whom evil is done Do evil in return. From the poem "September first, 1939", by W H Auden Auden continues and ends May I, composed like them Of Eros and of dust, Beleaguered by the same Negation and despair, Show an affirming flame. In this weblog I hope to continue where Auden left off, attempting to shine a light of hope through the darkness and despair of a world that is as crazy and vulnerable as it was back in 1939. Then we were on the brink of World War 2, now we are on the brink of World War 3. A staggering evil was carried our upon Jews and Gypsies by the German Nation (which had been the victim of the victorious West at Versailles, at the end of World War 1). The crime of genocide was invented specifically to prevent anything like it happening again. Yet it has happened again, and it is still being c...
